Welcome to InBrief Spring/Summer 2019

This edition of In Brief highlights Wills Week on page 3, which is taking place in June and we are delighted to have teamed up with Royal British Legion Industries to support their excellent work. If you need to make a Will or update an existing Will then why not use this opportunity and help raise funds for an excellent cause.

We look forward this summer to the Kent County Show 5-7 July 2019 and we are sponsoring the Garden Life Marquee, which is home to the floral displays and main flower show. It is nice to escape the crowds and to enjoy the blooms at this part of the show, so look out for us there.

On page 6 Partner Amanda Finn highlights some of the issues employers need to be aware of around the Equality Act 2019 and how veganism could be covered under the umbrella of ‘philosophical beliefs’.

On page 8 Partner Julie Hobson looks at the recent announcement by the Government to make changes to the rules for divorcing couples, to help make divorce less confrontational and acrimonious.

We are as usual involved with supporting a number of charitable initiatives including on Page 9 the exciting launch of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant a spectacular, public art installation, which is coming to Maidstone in the summer of 2020. This initiative is a collaboration between Heart of Kent Hospice, creative event producers Wild in Art and independent children’s books publisher Andersen Press. Our Chairman Blair Gulland attended the launch and we are delighted to be the first firm in the town to have signed up to sponsor an elephant.

We are also very pleased to announce the promotion of two new Partners in the firm, Catherine Lloyd and Marianne Webb. More news on this is on page 12.

I hope you find this an enjoyable and interesting read and if you would like to speak to any members of the team about any of the issues we raise, please do get in touch.
