Welcome To InBrief

We have a number of fixtures and events firmly in our calendars each year and on page two we highlight two great events – the Maidstone and Medway Sunday League Invitation Cup Final, which took place earlier in May and looking ahead to the Gravesham Business  Awards. Both throw a spotlight on local excellence, and we are delighted to support them both.

The work of another organisation is under the spotlight as businesses in Maidstone ballot on whether to continue to support OneMaidstone Business Improvement District.  We have been involved with many of their initiatives and they have achieved some good results for the town.

Our teams cover a range of subjects in this edition which affect business owners.  We take a look at Director’s duties in the so called ‘twilight zone’ and also the practicalities of buying your own freehold commercial property.  Our employment team are hosting a joint seminar in July at  The Business  Terrace and there are details of how to register for a free place on page 10.

We look at a number of issues which may affect property and landowners this month and our private client team shine a spotlight on Wills, intestacy and the lengths which have to be taken to track down heirs when there is no Will.  Their advice is naturally don’t leave it to chance and make an up to date and
valid Will.

Is Japanese knotweed the issue we think it is? RICS have updated their guidance for surveyors, so could that impact your house or land sale or purchase.

Finally, congratulations to  Alex Green in our Commercial  Team who has qualified as a solicitor.
We hear more from him on page 12.

If any of the issues which we cover in this edition are of interest and you would like more information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team.

With best wishes
