Staff profile: Paul Mannering
Position: Business Manager
Time at Gullands: 25 Years
Main responsibilities and duties:
Compliance Officer for Finance & Administration, HR, Marketing, I.T, Facilities Management.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in the legal sector:
The challenges facing the legal sector to adapt and modernise, marrying traditional client expectations to a more up-to-date approach, have been many and varied over the last 30 years or so. It has been exciting to be in a position to help and direct the infrastructure to achieve this.
What is the best part of the job:
Gullands maintains the family run feel and really takes care of it’s employees. For me the most enjoyable part of my role is getting to work with the people here and being in a place where all employees can help the firm achieve it’s goals and objectives.
If you were not in this job, what would you be doing:
Believe it or not I was once a competitive ballroom dancer and had I not gone into administration and IT I would probably have turned professional and taught. I also play in a band so I may have also been an international Rock Star! Who knows?
What changes would you like to see happen in the law in the next 10-20 years:
Artificial Intelligence will play a massive part in the legal profession I think and so I would like to see a happy balance struck between what AI can do and what it should do. I believe people will always require a human input when it comes to their legal requirements, especially when matters of the heart are involved.
What do you like doing in your spare time:
I am a keen motorcyclist and am a member of the Harley Davidson Owners group and the local Invicta Chapter. I also play the drums and sing in a band called the V Twins and play in local pubs and bars as well as some Harley Davidson Rallies. I also have a 2 year old Grandson who I enjoy spending time playing with.
