Health & Safety Lawyer joins Gulland's Team

Gullands Solicitors has recently strengthened its Litigation team with the appointment of health & safety and dispute resolution lawyer Andrew Clarke, who will be based in the firm’s Maidstone office.

Associate solicitor Andrew joins Gullands from Brachers, where he led the Health & Safety group. Andrew has advised on health & safety and regulatory law alongside his civil litigation practice for over twenty years. He has dealt with numerous fatal and serious injury cases, advising clients at the scene following an incident, on Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requests for interviews, disclosure and representing clients where cases proceed to court or if there is an inquest.

Andrew will work with partner John Roberts who leads the health & safety and regulatory team at Gullands. The team advises businesses and individuals who are prosecuted for a health & safety or similar offence. It will also advise on health & safety compliance, risk management, health and safety aspects of commercial transactions and contracts and responding to formal Notices and Warnings. The team’s regulatory work is wide ranging covering environmental, food, and trading standards regulations. Andrew gives presentations to employers on minimising their exposure to claims and prosecutions.

Andrew also has over 20 years experience of personal injury claims, especially in the workplace. He has acted for both injured parties and bereaved family members in fatal claims, as well as seeing claims from the opposing perspective of businesses, local authorities and insurers. Andrew also advises on commercial disputes.

Commenting on his appointment, Andrew Clarke said: “I am delighted to be joining Gullands, there is a positive feel there with new offices opening in Gravesend and recently a wonderful event at Allington Castle commemorating the anniversary of Magna Carta. I am also looking forward to working with regulatory crime partner John Roberts to increase the firm’s prominence in regulatory criminal work, especially health & safety.  Gullands has the unusual strength of being a modern full service firm for individual and commercial clients, but with true criminal and regulatory expertise, which we can now offer to businesses in trouble with regulators and enforcers like the HSE.”

Blair Gulland, Chairman of Gullands, comments: “I am delighted to welcome Andrew to the team. He has an excellent reputation and his experience and knowledge of helping businesses navigate health & safety and other regulatory requirements will be a real asset to Gullands and our clients.”
