Gullands helps charity move to new head office
A leading charity has an eye-catching new head office – with a helping hand from Maidstone law firm Gullands.
MCCH Society Limited is a Maidstone based charity that supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and autism across London and the South East. And when the charity was looking for assistance in the move to new headquarters it turned to Gullands.
The firm handled the majority of the legal aspects of the move, including the disposal of leases on two buildings in Turkey Court and Maidstone, and the negotiation of the new lease at One Hermitage Court. The move was completed on 18 January 2010.
“Staff at MCCH were based in two separate offices and it was becoming increasingly unworkable and expensive to maintain,” says Gordon Boxall, Chairman of MCCH Society. “Our new property not only looks fantastic, but has the benefit of being open plan enabling members of our staff to work together much more effectively.”
The new two-storey offices include on-site training and meeting rooms, dedicated entrance facilities for two of the charity’s area teams – Kent and East Sussex – and plenty of parking.
The landlord/developer, one of the local Gallagher group of companies, was tremendously supportive during the move. Not only did it help dispose of the Society’s Turkey Mill premises, but it agreed to erect on the same estate, at a greatly subsidised cost, a café where the Society’s “clients” will be able to provide catering facilities to other tenants, as well as receiving training in life and work skills.
“There is clearly a very good ongoing landlord/tenant relationship for which the Society is much appreciative. From a practical point of view, the landlords have been an absolute joy to work with and nothing has been too much trouble for them, although, that said, there has not been a great deal for the landlord to do in terms of snagging etc. as the final build specification was of a very high standard indeed,” says David Holt/Richard Webb of the Society.
Gullands partner, Paul Burbidge said: “MCCH Society is a long-term client of the firm and we were very happy to smooth the way for their move into much-needed new accommodation.”
